When you visit The Massage Studio, you will be greeted by one of our helpful and friendly staff members. If it is your first time visiting, you will be given some paperwork to fill out. This paperwork will help us assist you in deciding what type of massage you may need. After completion of the paperwork, you will be led to a room where your therapist will talk with you about the type of massage you need.
Before a massage, share with your therapist whether you are looking for a general stress-reduction massage, or whether you are seeking help with a specific problem such as neck pain, lower back pain, headaches, carpal tunnel syndrome or other pain. All these conditions can be effectively treated with massage therapy.
Next, you will be given privacy to undress and lie comfortably on the table with a sheet or blanket covering you. Remember, you will be covered at all times. Some people choose to wear underclothes. Most people disrobe completely.
After your massage, your therapist will bring you some water and discuss how you are feeling. You will then be left alone to dress. The last step it to check out at the front desk and schedule your next massage treatment.
We will provide you with a wrap and spa slippers to wear in the sauna. If you would like to bring your swimsuit or towel, that is ok too.
This is completely up to you. Most people choose to undress completely, and some choose to leave on their underwear. Prior to your massage, your therapist will exit the room for you to get completely comfortable. During a massage treatment, we use a draping technique in which the therapist will use the sheet to cover the entire body except for the body part being worked on.
The answer is maybe. “Depth” is the term massage therapists use to describe how much pressure they use during the massage session. Some people prefer a lighter massage, where the strokes are flowing and gentle. Others prefer deeper work, where the muscles are checked for trigger points and tightness.
In most cases, the deeper the massage, the more discomfort you will experience. However, a deeper massage is better at alleviating chronic pain problems that build up over time.
Please let your therapist know if the pressure is too deep or too light. Never endure a massage that is too deep or is painful. You will never offend a therapist by asking him or her to take it easy on you.
Since massage therapy is releasing lactic acid from the muscles, it can sometimes leave you sore. This is only temporary though and is due to the lactic acid — which is crystallized in the muscle — being worked out. This is why it is so important to drink plenty of water following a massage. You need to help hydrate the tissue and flush the toxins being released. Soreness can last up to 3 days after massage.
To better serve you, please let your therapist know if you have any of the following: pregnancy, muscle or joint injuries, heart condition, high/low blood pressure, diabetes, fever, contagious skin condition or any other medical issue.
Also inform your therapist if you are using Retin-A, Accutane, or any photosensitizing or keratolytic medications, or have recently had laser or plastic surgery. Any of the above scenarios may affect our ability to treat you.
Guests 12 - 17 years of age must get approval from a The Massage Studio Manager to receive body work or hair removal services. In addition, a parent or guardian must accompany them to the massage studio, and both parties will be required to sign a written consent.
Guests 12 - 17 years of age must wear a bathing suit or undergarments to receive body work or hair removal services.

Please arrive 15 minutes before your appointment as you may be required to fill out paperwork. If you are late, we may need to shorten your treatment to accommodate for the next scheduled appointment.
The Massage Studio is conveniently located just minutes from downtown Austin in the Berkshire SoCo Lofts. Free street parking is available along South Congress or in the attached 2 levels of the parking garage located behind our office. We are located at the far south end of the building.
To take advantage of the full benefits of massage, people with chronic pain or special issues are encouraged to get a massage every week until they feel better. Once achieved, monthly massages will help your muscles maintain pliability.
For those utilizing massage for stress relief or relaxation, we advise monthly massages.
